I don’t know if most people actually “read” cookbooks. I’m assuming that most cooks or chefs do, but most of the people I know don’t really read them. We flip through the pages, looking for pictures of things that make us salivate or headlining recipe titles that make us pause. Rachel Ray’s new book, though, falls somewhere between a cookbook and a memoir. One might say it’s a memoir with recipes. I enjoyed reading through her childhood memories, stories about her early career and her trips to Italy, and her likely descriptions of the people she’s loved most in her life, everyone from her grandfather to her dogs. The recipes are a little beyond my forte – but there’s gorgeous photos to go with each one, and Ray’s natural love and enthusiasm for life and food made this hefty “cookbook” worth the read-through.
